Feb 25 – The German food additive manufacturer at the centre of the melamine food scare in South Korea has said there are no health risks connected to the contamination of its product and that a subsequent recall is a “pure precautionary measure”.
Chemische Fabrik Budenheim (CFB) confirmed to FLEXNEWS today that the measures have been taken after “small traces of melamine compounds” were found in some batches of 5.4 tonnes of ferric pyrophosphate exported to Korea in three shipments over a seven month period between October 2007 and April 2008.

Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) — Orion Corp., a South Korean snack maker, fell by the most in seven weeks in Seoul trading after food regulators started probing its products for possible contamination of an industrial chemical.
Orion shares dropped 7.5 percent to 148,000 won at the close on the Korea Exchange, set for the steepest decline since Jan. 2. The benchmark Kospi stock gauge gained 0.3 percent.

BEIJING (AP) — Fourteen people in southern China have been poisoned after eating pig organs suspected of containing an animal-feed additive, state media said Thursday, the second such outbreak this month.
The 14 fell sick after eating pig’s liver at a dinner party in Guangzhou, in southern Guangdong province, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
They were all hospitalized with stomachaches, diarrhea, vomiting and headaches, it said.
