Los Banos, Laguna (27 November) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Calabarzon inaugurated recently the Regional Food Safety and Quality Assurance Center (RFSQA) located beside the regional office in Jamboree Road, Timugan in this municipality.

November 20 2009 –  National Starch Food Innovation, the ingredients company that had been earmarked for sale by its Dutch owner AkzoNobel, has won this year’s Food Ingredients Excellence Awards main prize.
National Starch received the award for its ingredient N-Dulge FR, a co-texturiser which is said to enable the amount of butter, margarine or shortening used in cake recipes to be reduced by 75%.

The US Food and Drug Administration on Thursday warned consumers about a sexual enhancement product sold online as a dietary supplement because it contains undisclosed prescription drug ingredients that could have potentially dangerous side effects.
Stiff Nights, a product sold to spur sexual enhancement and treat erectile dysfunction, was found to contain sulfoaildenafil, a pharmaceutical ingredient similar to the active ingredient in Viagra. Tate & Lyle has said its first-half performance was better than expected after sales to food and drink customers held firm.
The sugar and ingredients business reported a 7% rise in half-year revenues to £1.82 billion, while adjusted operating profits reduced 1% to £148 million.
