The list of 599 additives approved by the US Government for use in the manufacture of cigarettes is something every smoker should see. Submitted by the five major American cigarette companies to the Dept. of Health and Human Services in April of 1994, this list of ingredients had long been kept a secret.

OFFICERS from the Ministry of Health’s Food Control Unit have confiscated a number of food products from supermarket shelves because they have not met the requirements of the new Food Safety Act (No.10 of 2003).

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a list of data requirements that industry must submit for the assessment of food additives.
These requirements will form part of new regulations adopted by the European Commission in December, which will replace previous directives concerning permitted food additives.
