The 19th meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe took place between November 17th, to November 19th, 2009 at the Frankfurt Messe in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. The Food Ingredients Europe event is a meeting place for the people working in the food industry. More than 1100 food industry people from more than 190 countries had their products on display at the 19th meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe. The first meeting of this event goes back to 1986, where it happened in Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

I was very much interested in the department “Natural Ingredients” of the meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe 2009. It was about nature and its multiform aspects: aroma, colours, plant extracts…, and the various ways of using nature for medical, cosmetic or alimentary purposes. 150 exhibitors took part in the “Natural Ingredients” department.

Pavilions intended for special countries or special regions of the world made it easy for us to find the information and the products we needed. The “Show Catalogue 2009” and the daily newspaper of the Food Ingredients Europe joined forces to bring about efficiency, rapidity, facility on our way to get the information. Products of tomorrow were to be found in the department “New Product Zone”.

Why such a meeting? Well, the purpose of the Food Ingredients Europe is to enable people working in the food industry to meet, to present their products, to discover new ones, to collaborate with one another, to find new ways in the process of creation…; giving a little help in the matter, is the Food Ingredients Europe Excellence Awards that celebrate innovation and the best enterprises in the world of alimentary ingredients.

The 2009 Food Ingredients Europe Excellence Awards winners are:

The 2009 Food Ingredients Europe Excellence Innovation of the Year Award goes to the National Starch Food Innovation, for the product N-Dulge Fr.

The 2009 Food Ingredients Europe Excellence Bakery Innovation of the Year Award goes to the National Starch Food Innovation, for the product N-Dulge Fr.

The 2009 Food Ingredients Europe Excellence Snacks / On-The-Go Innovation of the Year Award goes to Lyckeby Culinar AB, for the product Culinax®.

One of my fondest memories of the 19th meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, is the conviviality that run throughout this meeting, the exhibitors’ amability, answering to all of our questions and providing us with brochures full of interest.

This 19th meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe was a firework of colours and products from all over the world. And we had the chance to taste, to judge those products, a vivid illustration of the extent of human creativity. The next meeting of the Food Ingredients Europe will take place in November 29th, to December 1st, 2011 in Paris, France.
