Despite the many benefits associated with additives, some people have adverse reactions to these substances. Typically, these reactions are due to sensitivities. Symptoms often mimic the effects of an allergic reaction. To date, the only actual allergy that has been confirmed is to sulfites (added to dried fruits, beer, wine, fermented foods).
Other health concerns related to additives have largely been disproved over the years. Previously, some speculated that additives might cause hyperactivity or learning disabilities in children. However, this hypothesis has been disproved. In addition, the FDA has strict rules …

The article from the World Journal of Gastroenterology is clearer than most in sounding the alarm about the recently recalled Hydroxycut weight loss aid and other over-the-counter dietary supplements. But the warning is still couched in typical medical journalese.

Do you remember the American way? Americans were tough, calloused ranch hands, hard-working farmers and no-nonsense cowboys who lived off of the land. In 2009, however, more and more Americans are living off of grease. Our once-fit, slim and energetic country seems to now be dominated by high-fat foods, laziness and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Who is to blame for the tragic downfall throughout the generations? Do we pin it on the fast food chains, for serving their artery clogging specialties? Can we blame electronic manufacturers, for developing such technologies …

MORE than half of Australian mothers believe their children’s behaviour is affected by foods with artificial colouring.
A nationwide survey of more than 1000 mothers found synthetic food colouring was among their top dietary concerns, second only to high levels of sugar.

Some foods and drinks had an average of …
