LANCASTER — This year, Fairfield Christian Academy’s annual community service day had no boundaries.
While some worked to improve Fairfield County, hundreds of students worked Friday inside Fairfield Christian Church’s Family Life Center, assembling food packages that would provide 225,000 meals to starving children in Africa.
The event, which concludes today, was possible through the Christian nonprofit group Feed My Starving Children.

China has launched a long-term campaign to crack down on making, selling and using illegal food additives and vowed to name violators.
The campaign will last from this month until the end of 2010, according to the Ministry of Health.
Statistics from the ministry show that, during the first campaign that ran from the end of 2008 to early 2009, 7,626 illegal cases were unearthed, involving goods valued at 67.08 million yuan (about 9.8 million U.S. dollars).

The US decision to increase Chinese tire tariffs risks starting a full-scale trade war, distorts economic growth and ultimately hurts consumers, according to a US trade expert.
In an interview with Xinhua in Chicago Thursday, Marshall P. Eldred, president of Chicago-based international trading company Golden Hill Foods, said the tire decision was protectionism that could potentially have a negative impact on trade relations.
“Every action has a reaction. This could lead to further protectionism on China’s part. At the very least, this sort of protectionist policy creates a tense trade environment,”he said.
